Element 1

New sixth form. New teachers. A new class cohort.

What was most perplexing was my Fine Art A Level class. There was a range of mediums to learn, some of which I needed a lot more time to familiarise myself with. What made this transition frustrating? My foundational creative skills had been in graphic design, and none of it was in the remit of the curriculum.

The final assessment date was looming and dwelling on my cohorts’ plans didn’t help either. There were those working with fabrics, makeup and traditional painting and without a doubt their interpretations of their chosen themes were airtight. Seeing my predicament, my art teacher Ms. John affirmed my talent and pushed me to think on how to apply my capabilities.

Then, it dawned on me. During my time with GCSE Graphic Design, I had experience working with spray paint! Not only was it a unique medium but it fit perfectly with my choice to analyse street art and politically subversive artwork. With a theme in mind and ample guidance with the procurement of materials I felt better equipped to take on my the assessment.
